blow out preventer types

And these days, one of the most important things on the list when we drill for oil is to protect our very drilling rig from an accident such as that which caused the current disaster. When it leaks too easily: oil or gas wells catch on fire, but a blowout is still dangerous for everything else. Now, in order to prevent that from happening, we have this one device-- right here called a blowout preventer BOP. The BOP can be classified differently depending upon the type and differs in its own characteristics based on its operation.

Blowout preventer is a safety equipment that keeps oil and gas inside the wellbore during drilling. In order to prevent the release, it seals the well in hydraulic rams. We tune the rams to be very quick as well but because these rams are massively strong you can get a real good hydraulic coupling with this. We would use a different BOP based on the type of well we expect to encounter and levels of pressure.

An Overview of Functions and Features.

An Annular BOP — Instead of simply restricting the pipe, a flexible rubber component can fold and unfold to block off an opening. This is great for wells that have out of gauge casing (big pipe that holds everything in) or drill pipe (smaller pipe that goes down into the well). Because it can bend providing less seal around the hole as the opening changes through the rock while being drilled.

Ram : can close and seal the well with large steel parts. ( BOP type) These are the best choice if you have a well with casing and drill pipe that is all the same size. The Ram BOP is a powerful clamp that can offer the high-pressure seal to drill at higher pressures.
